I work or use mixed materials.The project focuses on using landscape imagery through 3D modelling techniques to express the current homogenised consumer situation in China.
The death of my family members in my childhood made me consciously recall the philosophical concepts of time, space and dimension.The images they left behind became the only remaining historical memory,and digital art as a direct way of working drove me to re-explore these concepts.It allows me to create images that are not subject to physical materials and physical time and space,which is also the reason why I choose digital art for further study.
My digital imaging project“The Matrix”describes a“digital Buddhism”view of life.In the Mahayana culture of East Asia,the birth of life is seen as a point in the causal cycle of all things in the universe,and it does not refer to a new beginning.In the digital world,information is infinite in the way of 0/1,which also corresponds to life in an infinite and reciprocating way of“life - living - bad - death”.Absolute reproduction cancels out the concept of“original”.Therefore, the images of the digital world I create can be seen as the virtual reality of the Buddhist view of life online.However,this“digital Buddhism”transforms Buddhist life into a discontinuous,flux image that transcends time and space.Thus,the rheology of numbers presents a supreme understanding of cyber life.In the practice of this project, my early video production experience in Bright Dairy allowed me to better control the rhythm of the team’s work,and the collaboration between different technologies always moved in the direction of the concept I proposed,which also allowed me more time and energy to focus on the creation of the entire images.
The project“Unlimited Consumption”rendered me another opportunity to practice the cross-media and interdisciplinary relationship between image and space in contemporary art.I use the combination of image and installation to present a theater of“unlimited consumption”.Besides,I used cement to make the transport package of Pinduoduo’s cheap goods.The flowing commodity images and symbols projected on the cement mold meant that the commodity system and the logistics system formed a fixed signifier and signified relationship.
